"Is this going to be a long story?" (A favorite line a friend hands me.)
"Yes Mark , so sit down and listen."
Cars have always been in my blood.
I started building car models about age eight. By the time I was sixteen, I had built over three hundred styrene kits.

By age fifteen I was doing auto repair and the "little ones" quickly faded in to childhood memories.
My first car was a '66 Plymouth Fury III, two door with a 383 two barrel. Purchase price was a whopping $50.00 dollars.

I was scared to bring it home, fearing chastisement from my parents.

They were probably shaking their heads, but said nothing. A four barrel carb, too much cam, a set of old ET mags and I was cool.

I think we pushed that car more than we drove it.

The next several years saw a plethora, of cars from Darts to Mustangs.

Time has a way of creeping up on us and with responsibilities.

I found myself married and with two children. I began searching for that car to fill the old void.
I purchased a '68 Dart GT with a slant 6, dreaming of 340's. The car was very clean, I had purchased it from the original owner who was now residing in a retirement home. Frustration and concerns about keeping the car original led me to sell it and begin searching for something a little "hotter". After many weeks of searching I located a '72 Dodge Demon on the Web. The car was located in California.

I took my seven year-old son, and the two of us flew to California to buy the car. My father was kind enough to trailer the car back to Washington.

The next week was spent bringing the car up to specs and preparing it for SMOG certification. Since the car's arrival it has received a new ignition system. New power steering pump, Mopar Performance Super Stock springs, New tires.

The car features 235 60x14 BF Goodrich tires mounted on 5on4 14" Rallyes up front and 245 60x15 BF Goodrich Radial TA's mounted on 15"x8" 5on4 Rallyes on the rear.

Hedman headers, port the exhaust to a 3" aluminized set of pipes with an inline "h-pipe, Flowmaster muffle the noise (kinda) and it all exits the rear through a set of stock chrome tips.

The rear axle is an 8 3/4" Sure grip with 3.23 gears.

Mounted on Mopar Performance Super Stock springs.

The rear end has been lowered approximately 4" by reversing the front spring mounts. This technique requires elongating the mounting holes in the frame.
Perhaps someone will manufacture a kit someday.

The engine is stock at this point with 128k miles on it and is begging to demonstrate signs of wear. (Oil consumption is up and compression is down.)

The hood now sports a scoop off of a '73-'75 Dart Sport. The front clip is '71. It appears a previous owner positioned the vehicle in a precarious position resulting in modifications to the vehicles outer structure. (It was wrecked)

The rear shackles hinted at a slight disturbance in axle position. (the shackles were bent more than 3/4" sideways "ouch!").

Driving the car is a great experience.

Even as a tired beast it desires to do it's masters bidding and aptly applies BF Goodrich product to the pavement of my local community.

The headrests still provide function for those in the passenger seat.

Future projects include: A set of disc brakes out of a '71 Dart.

Engine rebuild using Edelbrock aluminum heads, intake and matched cam. Fresh paint with factory stripes. All new interior done in black and white. All new front suspension with quick ratio manual steering.

Here is my son Ethan and the new motor.
"One day all mine! right Dad??"
